867 killed, 465 critically injured in last Nine months at different Occupational Accidents around the country. Dhaka November 17 : Some 867 workers were killed and 465 others injured in various work related incidents across the country on last nine month in this year (1 January to 30 September, 2011).
Bangladesh Occupational Safety, Health and Environment Foundation (OSHE) revealed the said statistics after monitoring fifteen national daily newspapers from January 1 to September 30, 2011.

Of the total, highest number of causalities took place in the transport sector followed by garments sector, construction sector, Mining, day laborer, pharmaceuticals sector, Service sectors and agriculture.

It was found in the survey that, 501 workers were killed and 361critically injured at different workplaces around the country.

The survey also found that, some 366 workers were killed and 104 others injured in incidents while traveling to and from the workplaces.

Weak enforcement of exiting labour law (BLA-2006) at workplaces, poor labour inspections, lack of awareness, sensitization, health and safety training among workers, absence of OSH committee at workplaces level, lack of decent wage and defective industrial relations were some of the key reasons for growing occupational accidents, workers rights violations and labour unrests  in the country.
